About the Charity
Elk Grove Village's Soldier Memorial Fund

In 2004 and 2005, Elk Grove Village lost 4 young soldiers to the war on terror. This was a difficult burden for a community of only 35,000 residents to carry. To honor the sacrifices that these brave soldiers and their families made for our Country, Elk Grove Village undertook numerous fundraising events. The proceeds of these events provided college scholarships in the soldiers' names and created a fund used to assist military families in our area who are in need due to military service separating soldiers from their homes.

The third objective of our fund raising activities was the dedication of a statue to these soldiers on Veterans Day -- November 11, 2005. The design of this statue was the result of the vision of the families of the four fallen soldiers who worked with the artist on a bronze sculpture depicting a soldier with young children, representing a dual theme of military service and family.

While the goal of raising funds for the statue was realized early on in the process, the Elk Grove Village community has not stopped working to enhance the scholarship fund and continue seeding the soldier assistance fund, which is administered by the Heart of the Marine Foundation.

$10.00 of each entry fee goes directly to the Charitable Funds. All proceeds from the Mayor's Challenge entries goes entirely to the Soldiers Memorial Fund. Additional event contributions will be made from the event into the charitable fund 30 days after the event.
